Poker Games – Basic Fundamentals
Poker, also known as holdem, pit, Omaha, Caribbean stud or eight-card stud, is an exciting card game played between two or more people. Poker is part of a family of casino games that began in World Ages ago and has evolved into a multi-million dollar industry. Poker is a variant of blackjack that originated in England in the 17th century. It was probably originated from the Italian Sicilian area. Today, there are several different forms of poker such as Omaha Poker, holdem poker and Caribbean stud poker.
There are two ways to play Poker, straight forward and five-card stud. Straightforward Poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. In straight forward Poker players reveal all their cards and the dealer then reveals the top five cards before the deal begins. Players then try to make the highest hand winning the pot will stay un-dealt after the final round of betting. The last person standing is the winner of the pot.
Five-card stud is a variation of straight point poker where players may either face down or face up. For this variation, each player receives one card face up (called the flop). They may then take three cards, called the low card or a “blind” in the poker language, and place them in the pot face down. At this stage, players may make any number of bets, called “blinds” up to the amount of the pot. After all the blinds are in the pot, the dealer then deals five cards to each table and asks, “What would you like to do?” players may choose to fold, call, raise or fold.
When the pots start growing very large, a “cap” is called. A cap is simply a stop, which is an amount of money the pot can hold. Players may bet as much as they want, up to the cap, and the pot will remain capped until that amount is reached, at which time it is increased. One thing to keep in mind is that if you reach the limit and are out of chips, your game against your opponents will end immediately and you will lose the pot.
A wild card is a special kind of poker hand in which you have a Jack, Queen, King or Deuce in the same hole. This means you are starting the hole with more chips than anyone else. Wild cards are usually raised to bet above the minimum, so be prepared to face an aggressive raise from the hand you started the hole with. If you have raised to the correct amount, your opponent will have to call you with just one card left and you can win the pot.
